As dealership changes hands, recognize Tom Finley’s role for Beloit.

A chapter in Beloit’s history closed last week with the sale of the Finley GMC dealership. The longtime Beloit business — started in 1950 by Maurice Finley — was sold to the Kunes group, and now becomes Kunes GMC Beloit.

For nearly 75 years the dealership was a key component within the community’s business landscape. Because of its management commitment, Finley’s always came through as a solid and dependable corporate citizen. Along the way the company stepped up when asked in ways that benefited numerous local organizations and citizens.

Much of that can be attributed to Tom Finley, who began his long association with the dealership more than 40 years ago. He has been instrumental in building the company’s solid reputation for quality products and dependable service, while contributing much more outside the dealership.

Finley has been an active participant and supporter of numerous community organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club, Family Services and the Beloit Health System. He has given his expertise and efforts to promote various civic and school initiatives over the years, making a difference for people in the process.

For his efforts he has been named to the Beloit Historical Society Hall of Fame and received the Stateline Community Foundation Bridges to the Future Award.

Tom Finley has been a builder of Beloit, in both business and civic endeavors, and while he has earned the flexibility that comes with stepping away, the community can still find plenty of jobs to keep him from getting bored in retirement.

While we’re at it, a hearty welcome is due Kunes Auto Group, a large company with more than 40 locations in Wisconsin and Illinois. Kunes has a strong reputation and the heft to be a major player in the community. Here’s hoping Kunes continues the dealership’s long-standing commitment to Beloit and its needs.
