August is the perfect month to savor some of the very best that our welcoming community has to offer. Individual Stops / Location

1 Ice Cream Social - Free for New Residents

Did you know that chocolate ice cream was invented way before vanilla? In the late 1700s, vanilla was considered an exotic, rare flavor due to the scarcity of the spice. It was so prized that if you actually got a taste, it was because your host really wanted to wow you. Luckily, we’ll have plenty on hand during the New Resident Ice Cream Social on August 5th. Whether you’re flying solo or with the family, join us from 5:00 - 7:00 pm for a few scoops and let us welcome you to our amazing neighborhood! Click here to register for this free event.

2 Take Me Out to the Ballgame!

Our minor league baseball team is named after sky carp, which is local slang for the Canadian geese that hang around in Wisconsin despite the freezing temps. Even cooler? The Beloit Sky Carp plays at ABC Supply Stadium, located just a smidge from the state line. So, if a right-handed batter cranks a foul ball deep over the first-base line and crosses Shirland Avenue, it could land in the state of Illinois. Snag a ticket or two and join us in the homestands on August 4th through 9th and again on the 18th through the 23rd.

3 Home Grown!

Crisp local produce, honey, jams, jellies, baked goods, fresh flowers, artisan crafts… We might be biased, but we think the Downtown Beloit Farmer’s Market is too good to resist! In operation since the mid 1970s, it’s grown into an award winning (and mouthwatering) tradition that’s also the second largest farmer’s market in Wisconsin, occupying more than two blocks in the heart of downtown. Held every Saturday, rain or shine, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. from May through October, the event proudly supports more than 100 of our local farmers and makers. Please note: pets are not allowed.

4 Good “Clean” Fun… In the Mud!

Mud ponds, mud mountains, mud tunnels… The annual Dirty Dash is our idea of good clean fun! More than 700 kiddos ages 4-17 tend to sign up for this beloved race every year, making it one of the most popular in the community. Participants are broken up into age groups and given a shot at tackling each obstacle. Adults can join the fun during the Family Run, too! And parents, no need to panic: the Beloit Fire Department will be hosting a wash-down station to help get your kids squeaky clean before they head home. Click here to register!
