JANESVILLE – Rock County will allocate $1.3 million of its federal COVID-era American Rescue Plan Act funds to create a local childcare grant program.

The money will come out of $3 million in excess funds from the county's small business and nonprofit grant program.

Childcare providers will be eligible to receive up to $100 per child served per month and up to $300 per child per quarter. There will be caps of up to $15,000 for day camps; up to $30,000 for family providers and up to $60,000 for group providers.

Funds can also be used for early childhood staff education and training stipends and tuition assistance. Other uses can be wage enhancements, recruitment, increasing childcare capacities, improving Youngstar Quality Ratings, facility renovations, serve as match-funding for other grant sources that “directly address childcare access and affordability issues” within Rock County and use to contribute to a loan for operational needs.
