BELOIT — The massive $705 million Ho-Chunk casino, hotel, convention center project understandably has been the biggest construction story of 2025 — but it wasn’t the only story.
The Beloit casino project, which will stretch well into 2027, accounted for the four biggest building permits issued in Beloit this year and six of the 16 permits in the city and Town of Beloit worth $1 million or more.
All told, Miron Construction of Neenah pulled $316.05 million worth of permits in 2025. That included a $4 million permit just for a maintenance building. It didn’t include the convention center. Miron has yet to start on that part of the project.
How does that compare?
In 2024, there were just five building permits worth $1 million or more in Beloit and the 10 largest construction projects combined totaled just $25.7 million.
But even without the casino, 2025 was a busy year for Beloit. The biggest non-casino projects include:
* Briohn Building Corp. of Brookfield started work on a 198,000-square-foot industrial warehouse at 1505 Gateway Blvd. Briohn is building the warehouse for an as-yet unidentified company that will create 50 to 100 jobs in Beloit over the next 10 years.
* Klobucar Construction is in the final stages of construction of a 55,000-square-foot warehouse and office building for Beloit Auction & Realty at 615 E. Cranston Road. It is the biggest Town of Beloit building project since its new fire station/town hall.
* Gilbank Construction has been working all year on converting the former Royce School at 825 Liberty Ave. into the Next Steps Family Resilience Center. When complete, it will include office space, a daycare and 18 apartments for families in need of transitional housing.
* Corporate Contractors Inc. is building a 10,000-square-foot office building and 11,000-square-foot truck service facility for Blackhawk Transport at 2214 Townhall Road.
* Madison-based JG Development is building a 7,600-square-foot events center for Gateway Brewing Company at 1895 Gateway Blvd. The events center will be able to hold as many as 275 people, making it one of the larger special event venues in Beloit.
* L&L Builders of Loves Park, Illinois remodeled the former Playmonster headquarters for Mercyhealth. Mercyhealth already had a behavioral health clinic in the building. L&L remodeled it so Mercyhealth also could operate a drive-through retail pharmacy.
* Gilbank Construction completed a large gas station and convenience store expansion at 1407 Liberty Ave. It was one of three projects on Beloit’s West Side this year worth more than $1 million.
* Corporate Contractors Inc. worked on two big projects on the ABC Supply campus. It tore down and is rebuilding a retaining wall along Riverside Drive and renovated the top floor of its headquarters, including building a large conference room, lounge and modernizing the office space.
* In December, Genesis Construction of Beloit began work on a new apartment building at 1926 Cleora Drive to replace the one destroyed by fire in March.
There were some projects of note outside of Beloit.
In Clinton, Keller Inc. of Kaukauna built a 3,200-squaref-foot expansion of Country Pride Meats. The project included more retail space and a new sausage room.
In Roscoe, Beloit Health System built out a 8,111-square-foot birthing center at its NorthPointe Health Wellness campus at 5605 E. Rockton Road.
In South Beloit, Optimal Construction of St. Charles, Illinois, built a 16,000-square-foot addition to the American Extrusion International plant at 498 Prairie Hill Road.
In Rockton, DeLauter Construction of Crystal Lake, Illinois built a Verizon Store at 4601 E. Rockton Road and Bayland Buildings of Hobart is finishing up a Club Car Wash at 13457 Quail Trail, about 50 yards east of the Verizon store.
