State superintendent visits BMHS to highlight need to invest in vocational classes

BELOIT — Wisconsin completed the bumpy process of passing its Biennial Budget in July, but that just started the politics that will go into the next Biennial Budget in 2027.
On Wednesday, Jill Underly, the Wisconsin State Superintendent of Public Instruction, visited Beloit Memorial High School to get a tour of the high school’s vast career and technical education (CTE) classes.
Underly was there for three reasons — to highlight the school’s efforts, learn about how school administrators continue to grow the various programs, and to deliver a message.
“Wisconsin, unfortunately, is one of only six states that doesn’t directly fund technical education,” Underly said. “That makes it incumbent on school districts to make stuff like this happen. It’s amazing to see what kinds of opportunities they are providing for kids despite that obstacle.”
