BELOIT — The Beloit City Council has approved selling three vacant lots for $1 to a Habitat for Humanity chapter out of Waukesha in what will be the global nonprofit’s first housing projects in the City of Beloit since 2008.

It’s a significant leap into the Beloit housing pond for the newly renamed chapter of Habitat for Humanity Waukesha-Jefferson- Rock.

Last August, the organization announced it was expanding into Rock County and started by building one home in Janesville that will be finished this month with three more Janesville lots left to build on. In early June, a local real estate and management company donated five lots along Wisconsin Avenue in the Town of Beloit to Habitat for future homes, and now the City of Beloit sold the group three lots for $1.
