Beloit advocacy groups forming a new kind of welcome wagon

BELOIT — Four Beloit advocacy groups are hoping the city’s newest ice cream shop will draw the area’s newest residents to its newest idea.

On Wednesday, the Greater Beloit Economic Development Corp., the Greater Beloit Chamber of Commerce, Visit Beloit and the Downtown Beloit Association are hosting an inaugural New Resident Ice Cream Social Wednesday night at Visit Beloit, 656 Pleasant St.

The event, which runs from 5 — 7 p.m., is aimed at people who have come to Beloit or South Beloit in the past year and are looking to make connections. Those who come out will get a free scoop of ice cream from Bastani Ice Cream & Sweet Shoppe, which opened in June at 400 Willowbrook Road.
